Bobby Bones is an American radio personality and host of the syndicated country music program The Bobby Bones Show. He’s also a comedian, musician, and author. His discography includes The Raging Kidiots (2015) and The Critics Give It 5 Stars (2016). He’s released two New York Times bestsellers: Bare Bones (2016) and Fail Until You Don’t (2018). Bones was born Bobby William Estell on April 2, 1980, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. His teenage mother, Pamela Hurt (d. 2011), became pregnant at age 15. His biological father reportedly left when he was only 5. Bones grew up in poverty and was partially raised by his grandmother Hazel Hurt. He attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in radio and television.
CAREER
Bones dreamed of becoming a radio DJ as early as age 6. He began to realize his dream while studying at Henderson State University (HSU). His first notable on-air gig was for the HSU radio station KSWH-FM 91.1. He was 17 at the time. Bones began his professional career with the contemporary radio station KLAZ (105.9 FM) in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He reportedly made $17,000 from his first full-time contract. Starting in 2002, he worked briefly with ‘Q100/KQAR’ and ‘Alice 107.7’ in Little Rock. In 2002, Bones moved to Austin, Texas, to work on KHFI-FM (96-7 KISS-FM). His signature country music morning show ‘The Bobby Bones Show’ premiered in February 2003. He would eventually hire co-hosts Amy and Lunchbox.
Bones is signed to iHeartMedia Inc (formerly Clear Channel Media). The company moved the award-winning show from Austin to Nashville, Tennessee, in the fall of 2012. It is now syndicated by Premiere Networks to roughly 100 stations. He served as a presenter at the 2014 iHeartRadio Music Awards. Bones is one-half of the music duo Raging Idiots (with Producer Eddie). His debut EP, The Raging Kidiots, was released in November 2015 by Black River Entertainment. It peaked at #3 on the Kid Albums chart. His debut studio album, The Critics Give It 5 Stars, followed in March 2016. The album rose to #4 on the Country chart with more than 12,000 units sold. Bones made his film debut in the musical comedy-drama Bandslam (2009) starring Vanessa Hudgens, Aly Michalka, and Gaelan Connell. The film won the 2010 Gabriel Award for the family film of the year. Bones guest-starred in 2 episodes of the ABC drama series Nashville (2013-14). He guest-hosted multiple episodes of Live! With Regis and Kelly. His television credits also include Fox and Friends, The Today Show, and Good Morning America. Bones competed and won season 27 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. He was partnered with professional ballroom dancer Sharna Burgess.
