Bones was born Bobby William Estell on April 2, 1980, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. His teenage mother, Pamela Hurt (d. 2011), became pregnant at age 15. His biological father reportedly left when he was only 5. Bones grew up in poverty and was partially raised by his grandmother Hazel Hurt. He attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in radio and television.

CAREER
Bones dreamed of becoming a radio DJ as early as age 6. He began to realize his dream while studying at Henderson State University (HSU). His first notable on-air gig was for the HSU radio station KSWH-FM 91.1. He was 17 at the time. Bones began his professional career with the contemporary radio station KLAZ (105.9 FM) in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He reportedly made $17,000 from his first full-time contract.
