Doris Day was an American singer, actress and animal rights activist. She was born to parents William and Alma Kappelhoff on April 3, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio. CAREER
Day started out singing and performing with local bands in the late 1930s. She worked with band leaders Barney Rapp, Bob Crosby and later Les Brown. Day recorded her first hits “Sentimental Journey” and “My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time” which became popular in 1945. She parted ways with Brown in 1946 and made her solo debut in 1947. She had since recorded over 600 songs on the Columbia Records Label. Her solo efforts include “Love Somebody”, “My Love and Devotion”, and “Let’s Walk That-A-Way.” She was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008 for her contribution.

As an actress, Day had appeared in over 30 films and several television shows. Her film debut was the 1948 romantic comedy, Romance on the High Seas. She starred as “Ruth Etting” in Love Me or Leave Me (1955), and as “Jo” in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956). Day rose to prominence as an actress with the film ‘Pillow Talk (1959)’ opposite Rock Hudson. She picked up an Academy Award nomination for her performance. Other notable films include That Touch of Mink (1962) with Cary Grant, The Thrill of It All (1963) with James Garner, and Do Not Disturb (1965) with Rod Taylor.
